In 1933 & 1934, when I did field research on this family, I found no published genealogical material relating to this particular Mitchell family.  To my kowledge, no further research has been done, so what follows is essentially a resume of my 1933-1934 work.

the N.W. ¼ of the S.W. ¼ of Section 15.
[Note: Obviously, there were transactions other than those I have listed above between 1864 and 1871.  There also were land transactions during the 1871-1886 period, which further research should identify - GL,Jr., ed.]

I found no records of land transactions.  He appears to have operated a coal mine near Marseilles, LaSalle County, Illinois in partnership with his brother, 17.Michael P. Mitchell; and also a store.

A lot in Mason, Illinois.
Other real estate in Marseilles.
A leasehold interest in a coal mine in Marseilles.
A note for $7,000.00, executed by Michael Mitchell, dated early Jan.1883.
Bill of sale, executed by Bird Bickford for personal property, money due from Bickford.
Money collected by Michael Mitchell.
Personal estate, valued at $4,000.00

Michael P. Mitchell refuses to give Peter Mitchell's account books to Administratrix, who fears fraud & deceit by Michael.
Michael Mitchell appropriated a coal mine lease from E.C. Swift and operated it to his own profit.
Michael appropriated a bill of sale for $6,000.00 for personal property to Bird Bickford.
Michael appropriated a $7,500.00 promissory note, representing a one-third interest in Peter Mitchell's store in Marseilles.
Michael appropriated other Deeds and Notes.

LaSalle County, Illinois: Michael P. Mitchell answers the allegations of Ellen Mitchell, Administratrix of Peter Mitchell's estate:
Michael Mitchell has no books or papers of Peter Mitchell's; one T.S. Major got Peter Mitchells books and papers for Ellen Mitchell.
Bill of Sale was sent to Michael Mitchell by H.J. Gillan, brother of Ellen Mitchell; and suit over Bill was settled and Bill given to Bickford.
$7,500.00 Note was a personal note, not for a share in the business; and this loan has been settled and Note returned to Michael Mitchell.
He has no Notes of Peter Mitchell's; nor Deeds, except a Deed from John H. Widmer, which he is ready and willing to give to Ellen Mitchell.

Rev. Major knew that Michael and Peter Mitchell were business partners in LaSalle County, Illinois.
Michael Mitchell unlocked drawer, and gave Major all the papers that were in the drawer; there were no valuables in the drawer.
Rev. Major knew nothing of a $6,500.00 Note from Michael to Peter Mitchell.
