It would appear that B.F. Massey and Dr. Snyder first became acquainted in 1854; after Dr. Snyder had moved to Bolivar, Mo. to engage in the practice of Medicine; and where Dr. Snyder met and courted Annie Sanders, marrying her in Sept. 1854.
Annie Sanders was the daughter of Landon D. Sanders, a fellow merchant, and long-time neighbor and friend of B.F. Massey and his family. Interestingly, Landon Sanders has the distinction of being the only man B.F. Massey ever referred to by his given name only, in all the letters he wrote to Dr. Snyder.
The Sanders family were called Sarcoxie neighbors by 44.Benjamin Ulpian Massey in a 1914 letter to Dr. Snyder; who also recalls a stop-over in Bolivar, Mo. in 1852, when he remembered Ann Sanders as a girl.
The Sarcoxie town plat, which showed the location of "Sanders Dwelling" 5 acres", was recorded in 1849 by Andrew Wilson and Samuel D. Saunders, the latter being an Uncle of Ann Sanders.
Dr. Snyder was a very well-educated and multi-talented man. I find it interesting that he deferred to B.F. Massey in political matters, and submitted to scoldings by B.F. Massey when he got himself in political hot water.
Although Dr. Snyder was 19 years the junior of B.F. Massey, they very rapidly came to treat each other as equals in Missouri political infighting and planning. They had real respect for each others' opinions.
