Jefferson City, Mo.: Benjamin U. Massey, Chief Clerk to his Secretary of State father, B.F. Massey, helped pack up his father's records, including the State Seal, took them to Boonville.

Jefferson City, Mo.: The elected Missouri State administration, including Governor Claiborne F. Jackson, and Secretary of State Benjamin F. Massey, was ousted from the office by the Gamble Convention.

Des Arc, Ark.: The fugitive Rebel State government authorized a $10 million Bond issue to help pay for the War.  Acting as his father's Chief Clerk, it was Ben. U. Massey's duty to affix his father's signature and the State Seal to these bonds.

Benjamin U. Massey accompanied the Rebel State Government on its flight through the South throughout the War.
