Machine Tools, ca. 1890 illustrated catalog
MACHINE TOOLS

This catalog was given to Mr. Lamar Lyndon by the Edwin Harrington, Son & Company before 1906.  Mr. Lyndon was a famous electrical engineer, holding a number of US Patents in storage batteries.  He was also interested in electric power generation.

The catalog illustrates a number of machine tools and geared hoists; I once borrowed from Mr. M.B. Gardner a Harrington geared hoist when I acquired the Pratt & Whitney planer described elsewhere in this webpage.  It was strong and worked reasonably well, considering its great age, wear & tear.  The Harrington machine tools are notable for their simplicity and utter lack of protective guards.

The catalog itself is notable for its use of original photographic prints, which have been glued into appropriate places (over much cruder cuts printed on the same pages) and which are quite sharp and detailed.

I have shown these images at approximately full size, but you can enlarge them to 300 pixels per inch on your computer screen by right-clicking and then selecting, "view image."
