This chuck has three
springless jaws. The reeding on the shell of this
"PAT APPLIED FOR" chuck identifies it as an early Millers Falls
design.
The patent was granted later, on September 29, 1896. The present chuck
replaces an earlier, unpatented design that was perilously similar to
the
design shown in the Lanfair patent of August 13, 1895, that was applied
by Goodell Brothers to another eggbeater drill.
