Type Jacobs-H
The Jacobs
geared-ring chuck was patented in 1902, so drills like this one that
have
Jacobs chucks carefully (and permanently) mounted on their spindles
are more probably early demonstrators rather than user fixes. I have
another
Millers Falls eggbeater drill that not only has a similar early Jacobs
chuck (patent dated September 16, 1902) it also has a brass main gear
and
magnificently machined cast iron crank handle. What makes the seond
drill
(a No.1 model) even more interesting is that its Jacobs chuck's
markings
are inverted relative to the markings on the present No.2 model. Except
for the chuck, this is a Type H No.2 drill.
