Saw-15 Condition: Straight and sharp, with no pitting and a blue-black patina of magnetite remaining after I scraped off the red rust with a dull chisel. The securely attached handle has a missing saw nut & screw but there is a nice medallion. The Dec. 21, 1869 patent date is for U.S. Patent No. 98,180 on two of the three remaining saw nuts on this example. According to the Directory of American Toolmakers, Wheeler, Madden & Clemson started in 1860 and were bought out by Disston in 1893.The faint etch includes a protractor that once was rather handy; view image separately to see it better. The lower horn of the handle is slightly chipped. There is an owner stamp in several places: "DEMAREST"
