This Craftsman eight inch swing brace was made in the U.S.A. with nickel plating, nealy all of which remains, but all of the original lacquer finish has worn off the close-grained hardwood handles. It is smooth running, with a ball-bearing head and smoothly adjustable ratchet.

The principal question has to do with the alligator jaws, which depend entirely on the jaw spring to keep them in alignment. Even though there aren't any wrench markings on the shell of the chuck, nevertheless, the jaws' teeth are somewhat splayed to the sides from heavy use. The user must have been quite a brute. I haven't been able to identify the manufacturer from the jaw pattern, which doesn't have any connecting pin.

Retailer's mark
Sears, Roebuck caused the maker to mark the brace as shown at left. Never fear, the "Made in &%$#" stamp can be seen to be Made in U.S.A.
