Brooks Jr., 81 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Phililp M. Brooks Jr. of Chestertown died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, in Memorial Hospital at Easton, Easton. He was 81. Mr. Brooks was born July 13, 1917, the son of the late Philip M. Brooks Sr. and Rose Vickers Brooks. He graduated from McDonough High School with the class of 1937. Mr. Brooks attended the University of Maryland for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served in the Navy for the duration of Word War II, and was honorabley discharged as a captain LSM-311 in 1946. Upon his return to Chestertown, he built P.M. Brooks Jr. Inc. He also ran P.M. Brooks Feed Mill in Chestertown. Mr. Brooks served as mayor of Chestertown, 1967-1977. He was a life member of Chestertown Volunteer Fire Dept.; a charter member of Kent Ruritan Club; and a member of Chestertown Elks Lodge 2474, Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36, Chestertown, and VFW Post 10063, Fairlee. He served as a trustee for Chester Cemetery Association, as chairman for I.U. Family Association and as a board member of Kent Museum. Mr. Brooks enjoyed boating, woodworking and reminiscing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Redman, whom he married in 1954, in 1970; and by his second wife, Eleanor Davidson Freeman, in 1976. He is survived by three daughters, Josephine Hamblin of Salisbury and Phyllis Keen and Patricia Trinks, both of Chestertown; four stepchildren; a sister, Jane Sprinkle of Chestertown; three grandchildren, Robin Keen, B.J. Trinks and Philip Trinks, all of Chestertown; and a special friend, Ethel Everett of Chestertown. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at I.U. Church, Worton. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown. Burial will be in I.U. Cemetery.
