| James Massey, planter, for the
 sum of 2,700 pounds of tobacco and 16 pounds current money of Maryland 
buys a 65 acre portion of Friendship, lying adjacent to land sold by 
Richard Tilghman to Francis Spry, from Thomas Hynson Wright and wife Mary.  Witnesses: Augustus Thompson and Humphrey Wells; acting for the Crown: Augustus Thompson, Humphrey Wells, and Richard Tilghman Junior. |

 Anne's County aforesaid. June the twenty eighth day Anno Domini one 
thousand seven hundred and thirty seven. The following deed was brought 
to be recorded, viz.: This indenture made the twenty eighth day of June 
in the year of the reign of our most Gracious Sovereign Lord George by 
the Grace of God of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender 
of the Faith etc. and in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven 
hundred and thirty and seven. Between Thomas Hynson Wright of Queen 
Anne's County in the Province of Maryland and Mary his wife of the one 
part, and James Massey of the same county and province aforesaid, 
planter of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Hynson Wright
 for and in consideration of the sum of two thousand seven hundred 
pounds of tobacco and sixteen pounds [current money of Maryland] to him 
in hand paid or secured to be paid by the said James Massey the receipt 
whereof they the said Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife doth 
acknowledge and thereof and of every part and parcel thereof themselves 
to be fully satisfied, contented, and paid and of every part and parcel 
thereof to acquit, exonerate, and discharge the said James Massey, his 
heirs and assigns, forever by these presents hath given, granted, 
bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, and confirmed and by these presents
 doth fully, clearly, and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, 
enfeoff, and confirm unto the said James Massey, his heirs and assigns, 
forever part of a tract of land called Friendship situate lying and 
being in Queen Anne's County. Beginning at the end of the line South 
seventy degrees West two hundred and twenty perches of the said tract of
 land sold by Col. Richard Tilghman to Francis Spry and running from 
thence by the line aforesaid reversed North seventy four degrees East 
one hundred and sixty perches and South nine degrees East forty one 
perches and from thence with a straight line to the aforesaid beginning 
at the end of the South seventy four degrees West line of Francis Spry's
 land aforesaid containing sixty five acres of land more or less. 
Together with all woods, underwoods, trees, timber trees, houses, and 
houses, fences, orchards, gardens, ways, water, and water courses, all 
and singular other the rights, benefits, profits, privileges, and 
advantages to the same bargained premises belonging or in anyways 
appertaining. To have and to hold the aforesaid bargained premises with 
the appurtenances and every part and parcel thereof unto the said James 
Massey, his heirs and assigns, forever more and the said Thomas Hynson 
Wright and Mary his wife for themselves and their heirs doth covenant, 
grant, and agree to and with the aforesaid James Massey, his heirs and 
assigns, that they the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife 
at the sealing and delivery thereof and stand lawfully seized of a good,
 sure, perfect, estate in free and common soccage and at the above 
bargained premises in every part and parcel thereof free and clear of 
and from all and all manner of former or other gifts, grants, bargains, 
sales, leases, jointures, dower, or title of dour rights, or arrearages 
of rents, fines, forfeitures, mortgages, extents, entails, or 
amercyments whatsoever had made, committed, or done, or suffered to be 
done by the aforesaid Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife or their 
heirs or by any other person or persons whatsoever the rents and 
services from henceforth growing due and payable to Chief Lord or lords 
of the fees or fees only excepted and foreprized and the said Thomas 
Hynson Wright and Mary his wife and their heirs doth forever quitclaim 
and release all the right, title, and interest they now have are of 
right might or ought to have by any ways our means and that the same is 
by these presence wholly released and invested in upon the aforesaid 
James Massey, his heirs and assigns, forever and the aforesaid Thomas 
Hynson Wright and Mary his wife doth covenant and agree to and with the 
said James Massey, his heirs and assigns, that they the said Thomas 
Hynson Wright and Mary his wife and their heirs the above bargained 
premises and every part and parcel thereof shall and will forever 
warrant and defend against them and their heirs against all manner of 
persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the parties above said to these 
presents indenture interchangeably have set their hands and seals the 
day and year first above written. T. H. Wright {seal}Sealed and delivered Mary Wright {seal} in the presence of Augustus Thompson Humphrey Wells On the back of the foregoing deed was endorsed as follows viz.: Received June 28th, 1737 of the
 within James Massey the sum of two thousand seven hundred pounds of 
tobacco and 16 pounds current money of Maryland being the consideration 
mentioned in the within deed.Testes I say received by me  T.H. Wright Augustus Thompson On the back of the same deed was also thus endorsed this.: Maryland aforesaid. Be it remembered that on the 28th day of June Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and thirty seven personally appeared before us, the subscribers, two of his Lordship's Justices of the Peace for Queen Anne's County the within Thomas Hynson Wright and Mary his wife (she the aforesaid Mary being first privately examined out of the hearing of her set husband did freely voluntarily and without being induced thereto by fear threats of or ill usage of her said husband or for fear of his displeasure) and did both acknowledge the within mentioned deed of the lands and poremises within mentioned to be the right of the said James Massey, his heirs and assigns, forever as is within expressed. Augustus Thompson Humphrey Wells On the Back of the same deed was also thus further endorsed, viz.: Queen Anne's County aforesaid June the 28th day one thousand seven hundred and thirty seven. Received of the within James Massey the sum of two shillings and seven pence halfpenny sterling for the alienation fine on the within lands due to the right Hon. the Lord Proprietary of the Province of Maryland for his use by - Richard Tilghman Junior |
