          June 9, 1795: James Woodland of Kent County in Maryland for 5 shillings buys a 250 acre parcel called Smith's Park
 from Elisha Massy (Massey) and wife Sarah Massey, widow of James 
Hynson, who inherited the land from her late husband.  Witnesses: 
John Thomas, and W. Thomas.  Ben Chambers is Kent County Clerk. |

 indenture made the ninth 
day of June in the year one thousand seventeen hundred and ninety five 
between Elisha Massey of Kent County in the State of Maryland of the one
 part and James Woodland of the 
same county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the 
said Elisha Massey for and in consideration that he the said James Woodland did enter into a bond with Sarah Hynson as administratrix of 
James Hynson as her security for the administration of the assets 
which were of James Hynson which said Sarah Hynson has intermarried with
 the said Elisha Massey 
and also for and in consideration of the sum 
of five shillings current money to the said Elisha Massey in hand paid
 by the said James Woodland at or before the ensealing and delivery of
 these presents the receipt whereof and delivery the said Elisha 
Massey does hereby acknowledge and thereof and every part and 
parcel thereof does exonerate, acquit, and discharge the said James 
Woodland, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, and every 
one of
 them forever by these presents he the said Elisha Massey have 
granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, confirmed and by these 
presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, and confirm unto him
 
the said James Woodland and his heirs and assigns all the right,
 title, estate, interest, claim, and demand of him the said Elisha 
Massey 
in and to the third part of a tract of land called Smith's Park 
containing two hundred and fifty acres of land lying and being in Kent 
County which the 
said Elisha Massey holds in right of his wife's and which said land 
was devised by James Hynson to Sarah, his widow, who intermarried with 
the
 said Elisha Massey with their and every of their rights, members, and 
appurtenances whatsoever and of every part and parcel thereof and all 
rents, issues, services, and profits to them or any of them incident, 
belonging, or appertaining. And all and every the estate and the estate,
 
rights, titles, claims, and demands whatsoever of him the said Elisha 
Massey in to or out of the said lands and tenements, hereditaments, and 
premises and every part and parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said
 
lands, tenements, and all other the premises hereby granted, bargained, 
and 
sold, or mentioned or intended to be granted, bargained, and 
sold and every part and parcel thereof with them and their and every of 
their appurtenances unto the said James Woodland, his heirs, and 
assigns, 
for and during the natural life of him the said Elisha Massey to 
the only proper use and behoof of him the said James Woodland, his 
heirs, 
and assigns, for and during the natural life of him the said Elisha 
Massey and the said Elisha Massey does hereby grant for him and his 
heirs that he the said Elisha Massey and his heirs, the lands, 
tenements,
 and premises hereby granted or mentioned to be granted in every part 
and parcel thereof with all and singular their and every of their 
rights, members, and appurtenances unto the said James Woodland, his 
heirs, 
and assigns, against him the said Elisha Massey and all and every other
 person or persons whatsoever claiming anything in the said lands and 
premises by from or under him or them shall and will warrant and defend 
by 
these presents during the natural life of the said Elissa Massey. In
 witness thereof the parties to these presents have hereunto set their 
hands and seals the day and year first above written.  Elisha Massey {seal} 
Signed sealed and 
delivered James Woodland {seal} in presence of John Thomas W. Thomas Kent County aforesaid. Be it remembered that the within named Elisha Massey came before us, the subscribers, two of the Justices of the Peace of the county aforesaid, and acknowledged the within deed to be his act and the lands and premises with their appurtenances thereby bargained and sold to be the estate of the within named James Woodland, his heirs, and assigns, for and during the natural life of the said Elisha Massey. Taken and certified [illegible] to the active assembly in that case made and provided by us the ninth day of June in the year seventeen hundred and ninety five. John Thomas
