August 28, 1764: Joseph Massey and Ebenezer Massey patent of The Slippe, a 6.5 acre parcel (formerly owned by Joshua Vansant, deceased) lying adjacent to Massey's Venture and Addition to Fair Dealing, and The Exchange, all in Kent County, Maryland.  Acting for the Crown: Horatio Sharpe.

Frederick etc. Know ye that whereas Joshua Vansant of Kent County by his humble petition to our agent for management of land affairs within this province did set forth that there was about the quantity of fifty four and three-quarters acres of vacant land lying and being in the county aforesaid and joining to the slip along Massey's Venture and Addition to Fair Dealing, Massey's Venture, and The Exchange, partly cultivated by means whereof he conceived the same could not be taken up by a common warrant therefore humbly prayed a special warrant to affect and secure it and that on a return of a certificate of such survey he, complying with all other requisites usual in such cases, might have our grant thereunto him thereon which was granted him and accordingly a warrant on the sixth day of September seventeen hundred and sixty three unto him for that purpose did  you in pursuance whereof it is certified into our land office that there was surveyed and laid out for and in the name of him aforesaid Joshua Vansant the quantity of six acres and an half. Half for which rights was made good at the time of granting said warrant but before he issued out our grant thereon he did on the sixth day of April seventeen hundred and sixty four assign over all his right, title, interest, and property claim and demand whatsoever of in and unto the certificate aforesaid and the land and premises thereon mentioned unto a certain Joseph Massey and Ebenezer Massey who has supplicated us that our grant might issue onto thereon which we have thought fit to condescend unto according to Charles Lord Baron of Baltimore our great grandfather of noble memory his instructions to Charles Carroll, Esquire his then agent bearing date of London the twelfth day of September seventeen hundred and twelve and registered in our Secretaries Office of our said Province together with a paragraph of our Dear Father's instructions bearing date at London the fifteenth day of December seventeen hundred and thirty eight and registered in our land office. We do therefore hereby grant unto them the said Joseph Massey and Ebenezer Massey all that the aforesaid tract or parcel of land called Slipe lying and being in the County aforesaid. Beginning at the end of one perch south from a hickory the beginning of the Slipe along Massey's Venture and running West one hundred and eleven perches then North one perch then West fifty one perches thence South West nine perches and East one hundred and sixty eight perches thence with a straight line to the beginning containing and now laid out for six acres and a half acre of land more or less, according to the certificate of survey there of taken and returned into our land office bearing the date the nineteenth day of September seventeen hundred and sixty three and there remaining together with all rights and profits, benefits, and privilege thereunto belonging, Royal mines excepted. To have and to hold the same unto them the said Joseph and Ebenezer Massey their heirs and assigns forever to behold and of us and our heirs is of our Manor of Baltimore in free and common soccage by fealty only for all manner of services, yielding and paying therefore yearly unto us and our heirs at our receipt at our city of St. Mary's at the two most usual feasts of the year viz.: the Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Michael the Archangel and by even and equal portions the rent of three pence farthing in silver or gold and for a fine upon any alienation of the said land or any part or parcel thereof of one whole year's rent in silver or gold the full value thereof in such commodities as we and our heirs or such officer or officers as shall be appointed by us and our heirs from time to time to collect and receive the same shall accept in discharge thereof at the choice of us and our heirs or such officer or officers aforesaid. Provided that if the said sum for a fine for alienation shall not be paid unto us and our heirs or such officer or officers aforesaid before such alienation and the said alienation entered upon record either in the Provincial Court or County Court where the same parcel of land lies within one month next after such alienation then the said alienation shall be void and of no effect. Given under our great seal of our said province of Maryland this twenty eighth day of August Anno Domini seventeen hundred and sixty four. Witness our trusty and well beloved Horatio Sharpe, Esquire, Lieut. Gen. and Chief Governor of our said Province of Maryland and Chancellor and Keeper of the Great Seal thereof.
