Daniel Massey to Christopher Williams, August 24, 1731

August 14, 1731: Christopher Williams of Kent County in Maryland for 7 pounds buys a 200 acre tract of land called Lower Foords (adjoining land owned by Gilbert Falconar and adjacent to Rings End that was owned by Thomas Collins) from Daniel Massey.  Witnesses: Gideon Pearce, Peter Massey, and John Johnson.
Queen Anne's County [illegible] August the twenty fourth day Anno Domini one thousand and seven hundred and thirty and one the following deed was brought to be recorded to wit:

Maryland [illegible] This indenture made this eighteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand and seven hundred and thirty one between Daniel Massey of Kent County and province aforesaid of the one part and Christopher Williams of the said County and province of the other part.  Witnesseth that the said Daniel Massey for and in consideration of the sum of seven pound current money of the province aforesaid to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof the said Daniel Massey doth acknowledge and thereof and of every part and parcel thereof himself to be fully satisfied, contented, and paid and of every part and parcel thereof does fully clearly and absolutely acquit, exonerate, and discharge the said Christopher Williams, his heirs, and assigns, forever by these presents hath given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, infeoffed, and confirmed and by these presents doth fully, clearly, and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, transfer, and confirm unto the said Christopher Williams all that part or parcel of land called Lower Foords, lying in Queen Anne's County on the south side of Chester River above the mouth of the Unicorn Branch on both sides of the Lower Road respecting on the North the land of Gilbert Falconar and next above the land that was Thomas Collins called Rings End. Beginning at a marked oak near above where this land called Rings End intersects the [Chester] River and from that oak runs East and by South up the river two hundred perches and from the end of the East and by South line runs South and by West one hundred and sixty perches and from the said line runs West and by North two hundred perches then on a straight line to the beginning bounded on the North by the river containing and laid out for two hundred acres more or less together with all woods, underwoods, trees, timber-trees, houses, orchards, gardens, ways, water, clear grounds, fences, fishings, fowlings, or huntings, and all and singular other the rights, profits, benefits, privileges, and all and singular other the rights, appurtenances to the same belonging or in any ways appertaining to have and to hold the said tract of land with the appurtenances thereto belonging unto the said Christopher Williams, his heirs, and assigns, [illegible] for the only use, benefit, and behoof of him the said Christopher Williams, his heirs, and assigns, for evermore and that the said Daniel Massey and his heirs doth covenant, grant, and agree to and with the said Christopher Williams, his heirs, and assigns, that he the said Daniel Massey at the sealing and delivery hereof hath good right, full power, lawful, and absolute authority to sell and convey the same, and that the above bargained premises in every part and parcel thereof are free and clear from all [illegible] gifts, grants, bargains, sales, leases, joyntures, dower or title of dower, rents or arrearages of rents, fines, forfeitures, issues or amercements whatsoever had made, committed, or done, or suffered to be done, by the said Daniel Massey or his  heirs or by any other person whatsoever by their means, consent, or procurement, the rents and services from henceforth growing due and payable to the chiefs, Lord or Lords of the fee or fees only accepted and foreprized.  And the said Daniel Massey does by these presents forever quitclaim and release all the right, title, interest, property claim, and demand he now has or of right might or ought to have in the above bargained premises by any ways or means and that the same by these presents is hereby wholly released and invested in and upon the said Christopher Williams, his heirs, and assigns, forever and further the said Daniel Massey and his heirs the above bargained premises and every part and parcel thereof will forever warrant and defend against him the said Daniel Massey and his heirs and against all manner of persons or persons whatsoever claiming by, from, or under him or any of his.  In witness whereof the said Daniel Massey to this present indenture set his hand and seal the day and year above written.

On the back of the foregoing deed was the following endorsement to wit: Kent County Maryland August 18th, 1731. Then came the within mentioned Daniel Massey before me, the subscriber, one of his Lordship's the Lord Proprietary's Justices of the Provincial Court, and acknowledged the within instrument to be his free and voluntary act and deed for the use of the within named Christopher Williams.
