John Bordley & wife Isabella to Luke Myers: Deed dated May 26, 1759

  
May 26, 1759: John Bordley, merchant of Kent County, and his wife Isabella sell for £60 to Luke Myers an 85-1/2 acre portion of the tract of land called Bordley's Gift, described by the following metes and bounds: Beginning at the end of the sixth course of the whole tract and running thence South forty two perches to the running water of the said Cypress Branch then running down by and with the main run of that branch the several courses and distances following: Beginning at the end of the sixth course of the whole tract and running thence South forty two perches to the running water of the said Cypress Branch and running down by and with the main run of that branch the several courses and distances following: South seventy degrees West six perches thence South thirty six degrees East six perches thence South ten degrees East six perches thence South thirty nine degrees West twelve perches then West six perches then South seventy degrees West six perches then South twelve degrees West twelve perches then South twenty three degrees East thirty six perches to intersect the North West line of the aforesaid tract of land then Northwest two hundred ninety two perches then North sixty degrees East seventy five perches then South West sixty perches thence with a straight line to the beginning containing and now laid out for eighty five acres and one-half acre of land. Acting for the Crown: Justice of the Peace Bedingfield Hands and John Porter acting as witnesses, John Nicholson, and James Smith, Kent County Clerk.
  
This indenture made the 26th day of May in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and fifty nine between John Bordley of Kent County in the Province of Maryland, merchant of the one part and Luke Myers of the county and province aforesaid, planter of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Bordley for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds current money of Maryland to him in hand paid by the said Luke Myers before the sealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof he the said John Bordley does freely acknowledge hath granted bargained sold enfeoffed released conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grand bargain sell alien enfeoff release convey and confirm unto the said Luke Myers his heirs and assigns forever all that parcel of land being part of a tract of land called Bordley's Gift lying and being near Cypress Branch in Kent County aforesaid [and described by the following metes and bounds]: Beginning at the end of the sixth course of the whole tract and running thence South forty two perches to the running water of the said Cypress Branch and running down by and with the main run of that branch the several courses and distances following: South seventy degrees West six perches thence South thirty six degrees East six perches thence South ten degrees East six perches thence South thirty nine degrees West twelve perches then West six perches then South seventy degrees West six perches then South twelve degrees West twelve perches then South twenty three degrees East thirty six perches to intersect the North West line of the aforesaid tract of land then Northwest two hundred ninety two perches then North sixty degrees East seventy five perches then South West sixty perches thence with a straight line to the beginning containing and now laid out for eighty five acres and one-half acre of land more or less together with all houses buildings orchards gardens and improvements thereon or any wise appertaining to the same [illegible] parcel of land and premises and any part thereof with the appurtenances [illegible] and reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents and profits of the said [illegible] parcels [illegible] and also all the estate right title interest claimant demand whatsoever of him said John Bordley his heirs or assigns of [illegible] and to the same and every part thereof with the appurtenances to have and to hold all and singular the aforesaid granted parcel of land [illegible]  and premises and every part thereof unto the said Luke Myers his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use of the same Luke Myers his heirs assigns forever and the said John Bordley for himself his heirs and assigns doth covenant and grant to and with the said Luke Myers his heirs and assigns that he the said John Bordley and his heirs the aforesaid granted parcel of land and premises as well against himself as against his heirs and assigns than against all other persons claiming by from or [illegible] him his heirs or assigns shall and will warrant and defend forever by these presents unto the said Luke Myers his heirs and assigns. In witness whereof the [illegible] parties have heretofore set their hands and seals the day and year first written.

Kent County [illegible]: Be it remembered that on the 26th day of May seventeen hundred and fifty nine John
Bordley the grantor within named personally did appear before me one of this Lordship's justices of the peace in the court of Maryland and did acknowledge the within deed of bargain and sale to be his act and deed and the lands therein mentioned to be the right and estate of the within named Luke Myers his heirs and assigns forever to the only use of the said Luke Myers his heirs and assigns forever according to his [illegible] of the within deed at the same time also came Isabella the wife of the said John Bordley and did declare her assent and consent to the within deed and being by us first privately examined out of the hearing of her husband did declare that she made the said acknowledgment freely without being induced thereto by fear of or ill usage from her husband or for fear of his displeasure. Acknowledged before me.
