George Langford And His Fossils, [An Appendix] by Sydne Holmes

Introduction
Father (George Langford, Sr.) became well known for his handsome fossil
plant specimens and was often asked to speak about them and show them
off at women's clubs and the like. Father felt ill at ease before
large groups, especially women, so it fell to Mother's (Sydne Holmes
Langford) lot to do his public speaking in his stead. Mother
liked doing this and was very good at it. This Personal L/L Book contains notes
for her speeches and the photographs that she used to illustrate

| Few of the fossils in the
photographs are identified, and so they are presented for their
esthetic content. Perhaps the reader can treat them as "unknowns"
in the same sense as I did in the Microstructures section of georgesbasement.com. My grandparents often collaborated on projects. The two paintings below were prepared as studies for George Langford, Sr.s' Pic, The Weapon Maker, Kutnar, Son of Pic, and Senrac, The Lion Man series published by Boni & Liveright, NY, in 1920, 1921, and 1954, respectively. I cannot say with certainty whether they were painted by Sydne, George, Sr. or both. George Langford, III, May 2, 2010
