The March 16, 1897,
patent date is for Justus Traut's Hand-Y feature, i.e., the scooped-out
faces of the rosewood. Oddly, E.A. Schade's improved locking lever,
which was patented in 1904, is present but without the imprint of the September
6, 1904, date, suggesting that this example was made less than a year before
Schade applied for that patent.
Condition: Fully
functional; sliver off the rosewood; small pits on straight blade.
