The present iron thumbscrew has US Standard threads, which gives away its age. The knife and brass wedges are original and are characteristic of Burkinshaw's gauges.
William Burkinshaw made edge tools and marking gauges in New York around 1835. The curved maker's mark was made with the only stamp Burkinshaw ever used.
