Millers Falls No. 772-10in ten inch swing brace with LION ball bearing chuckThe shell of this LION brand ball bearing chuck bears three patent dates:  June 25, 1907, February 16, 1909, and November 8, 1910.  None of these is listed in Ron Pearson's book, but Jim Price has 'em all on his Patent Master CDROM.

Oddly, there's no sign that the first patent was actually applied to this particular brace; however, it could have been, as the patent covers a jaw mechanism that would slip right into place.

None of the patents covers the ball bearing mechanism or the snap ring that holds the shell together so as to avoid losing the balls.

There is a nice ombination of patina and 50% remaining nickel plating (no peeling or roughness).  The rosewood handles are in better than good condition; and the mechanical functions are excellent.

The ball bearing chuck will securely grip any shape of bit within its 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch range.
