If you are looking for a small brace for driving screws and for boring small holes, this rather ugly PEXTO (Peck, Stow & Wilcox) product may be for you. The ratchet works with little drag (but lots of noise) in both directions, and the handles are smooth turning and in excellent condition. Fortunately, the spottily deteriorating nickel plating has no rough edges.

Surprisingly, in spite of the lack of any patent date on this brace, its jaws follow Robert Ellrich's U.S. Patent No.809,936, granted January 16, 1906 and assigned to PEXTO, are quite serviceable, with no damage from attempts to grip round-shanked bits, and the chuck's shell is free of wrench marks.
