chuck & pushbutton ratchet selector. This brace is in fine condition; probably never used. Why ? Read on. The handles are plastic and very tough, but the wrist handle is slightly sticky. Once it's oiled and moving, little resistance is felt. It just won't spin when you play with it. The pad works fine. The ratchet mechanism wasn't yet completely hand-fitted at the factory. It would ratchet OK in one direction, but kept refusing to release when set for the opposite direction. I could play with it to get it to operate properly about seven times out of ten, but it would have driven you nuts in a work situation. However, once I disassembled the brace as shown elsewhere on this site, I found that the ratchet pawls had burs, which I promptly removed with a file. Now it works OK in both directions.
