Note by George, III: I still have the  layout tools, 
a Starrett vernier protractor, Brown & Sharpe 
"vernier" caliper where one uses "eyeballs" to
align the index marks and a 40 tpi thread and dial
to interpolate, and radius gauges that George, Jr. 
used to make the templates the machinist needed to 
make the grooves in the rolls.

The input side of the furnace is at left.  Men are adjusting
the positions of used rails on the jockey cart at the right.
The man at far right is working on a hot saw blade.
