Jefferson City, Mo.: Nina Massey Hough in her notes to her son, c.1920, said:
"I had two brothers run off and join the army."
Note. Julian P. Massey was one of these two brothers, and Clarence R. Massey was the only one of about the right age to have been the other.

B.F. Massey, in his 15 Feb.1875 letter to his friend, Dr. J.F. Snyder, writes:
"Another [son] is a Jour. [Journeyman] printer, and has been at it for near 10 years."

Springfield, Greene Co., Mo.: A Probate Court jury adjudged Clarence R. Massey incapable of managing his own affairs, and legally insane.  Probate Judge G.G. Lydy appointed his brother, Frank R. Massey, to be his Guardian, to protect his share of the estate of Robert D. Massey. Probate Court File #7683, makes note that Clarence R. Massey is a resident of Nevada, Mo.
